MILESTONE 4
PERSONAS AND LOW FIDELITY PROTOTYPES
Three personas were built based on these distinct behavioral patterns
PERSONAS
Each persona is based on the combination of different Clusters or the Behavioral Patterns.
Persona 1
DESIRES
-
Cluster of Users 3, 6, 7, 8, 10 : They would prefer to manually check fewer notifications on only one or two platforms
-
Clusters of Users 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12 : They want to be able to filter notifications using more refined categories.
-
Clusters of Users 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 : They want more frequent reminders for events of interest
PAIN POINTS
-
Cluster of Users 3, 6, 8, 9 : They find it very difficult to find event venues presently.
-
Cluster of Users 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 11 : Misses events primarily due to timing or scheduling conflicts. Too many notifications and too many platforms.
TRAITS
Curious
Ambitious

GOALS
Not missing Events
Exploring Campus

events
PAIN POINTS

Persona 2
DESIRES
-
Cluster of Users 2, 4, 5 : They would prefer a mix of automated notifications and manually checking a medium volume of notifications on more than two platforms.
-
Clusters of Users 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12 : They want to be able to filter notifications using more refined categories.
-
Clusters of Users 2, 5, 7, 8 : They are happy with the frequency of reminders presently.
PAIN POINTS
-
Cluster of Users 1, 5, 8, 9, 12 : Misses events primarily due to information about events being hard to find.
-
Cluster of Users 4, 5, 10 : They find it moderately difficult to find venues.
TRAITS

Diligent
Organized
GOALS
Balance all events
Declutter emails
Organize Events
PAIN POINTS

Information hard to find
Time or scheduling conflicts

Persona 3
DESIRES
-
Cluster of Users 9, 11, 12 : They would prefer a high volume of automated notifications on only one or two platforms.
-
Cluster of Users 4, 10 : They don’t mind the presently limited filtering criteria for notifications.
-
Cluster of Users 2, 5, 7, 8 : They are happy with the frequency of reminders presently.
-
Cluster of Users 2, 7, 11 : They find it very easy to find venues.
PAIN POINTS
-
Cluster of Users 1, 6, 11 : Misses events primarily due to lack of motivation, either due to a lack of company or last minute changes in their plans
TRAITS

Studious
Kind
GOALS
Have fun with friends
Focus on academics
Enjoys personal time
PAIN POINTS
Lack of Company
Changes in plan

LOW FIDELITY PROTOTYPES
Timelines and scenarios were developed for each of the personas. These scenarios were then used to create low fidelity prototypes.

MILESTONE 5
HIGH FIDELITY PROTOTYPES
After user evaluations on low fidelity prototypes we created high fidelity prototypes
PROTOTYPE FEATURES
LIVE MAP.
Allows users to find events happening near them in real time.
RSVP EVENTS.
Allows users to find events, register for them or add them to their favorites.
CUSTOMIZABLE NOTIFICATIONS.
Users can modify notification settings to allow notifications related to their favorite types of events.
CUSTOMIZABLE REMINDERS.
Users can set or disable reminders. They can also adjust the frequency of reminders to certain hours/days before the event.
GRAINED FILTERING.
Allows users to filter events based on event category, department, college and time of event.

SUMMARY
Defining Problem
Our team decided to create a one-stop platform for RIT students and staff to find and attend events happening on campus, to replace the multiple platforms and applications that exist currently
Qualitative Research
Based on informal surveys, we realized the above problem was one of the key issues users faced – an assumption that was proven valid after a formal ethnographic study of the various stakeholders on campus.
Findings
Following key issues were identified from the research :
-
In-campus navigation is difficult
-
Difficult to find events due to availability of various platforms.
-
Last-minute availability of free time.
-
Forgetting/missing events due to various reasons.
Solution : A mid-to-high fidelity prototype
The final prototype, tries to accommodate solutions to each of the above problems, through the following features:
-
The LiveMap, which allows users to find events happening near them in real time.
-
A fully customizable reminder and notification system, linked to one’s Google Calendar.
-
Tag-based filter and search options.
